Kiva Coffee House is an oasis in the middle of a beautiful and otherwise lonely stretch of Utah's Scenic ByWay, Highway 12. Open from 8:30-4:30 Wednesday through Monday, they are closed Tuesdays-which I discovered the Tuesday morning I left Torrey, Utah. I'd forgone the questionable benefit of the obligatory, rather pedestrian cup of hotel room coffee anticipating the deliciousness of their Americano with an extra shot and a little room. It took a few miles to get over the disappointment, but I vowed to hit it on the way home, Sunday. Try their breakfast sandwiches on croissant. Though the menu says bacon, if they find sausage in the 'frig, they'll cook it up for you. Kiva Coffee House is well worth an hour's rest during your long drive through the Escalante Staircase.
