Frozen Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
At the foot of the The Spearhead, a blade of granite jutting out from the Southern headwalls of Rocky Mountain National Park's Glacier Basin, lies little known Frozen Lake, thawed only one month a year. Here, in September's late afternoon sun, the distant, mighty massif of Longs Peak quietly reflects in the still waters of Frozen Lake. Alone in majesty on the horizon and dwarfing the imposing ridge line known as Keyboard of the Winds, Longs Peak sits unchallenged as the most impressive mountain along Colorado's Front Range.
