After my third trip across the country to either return or retrieve our son from school in Chicago, this scene greeted me in western Nebraska. Having turned off the Interstate miles prior and traveled two-lane from Hastings, I was ready for any excuse to stretch my legs. Not a lot of traffic this time of evening on this stretch of road allowed me to simply stop, turn the engine off and stand, in the middle of the road for 15, 20 minutes. It was so still that a low murmur of indistinct voices could be heard from a distant patio. A rustling in the line of low forest to the right gave no clues as to what may have been watching me, until the soft warble of wild turkey's joined the damp air, wet road and fading golden light. It was so good to be home. [frame 35 - Sunset, Western Nebraska]
