Between Haiti and the DR, No-man's Land (2010)
In the land between leaving Haiti and entering the DR, there's about 100 yards of no man's land where it looked like just about anything goes. There are markets, tents, automobiles, trucks, motorcycles and mopeds buzzing around everywhere, lots of foot traffic and plenty of chaos - the sounds of engines, smells of exhaust fumes, people cooking, dirt and dust... it's quite an experience.
This woman had a "flea market" style business where she sat beneath a beautiful red umbrella and sold, from the looks of, just about anything edible. The light washing through the red umbrella caught my eye on the first pass by to the DR gate, and I had to get brave to stop and shoot this on the way back. Adrien had warned me to be careful shooting in this zone. Now I'm happy I did.
